Press Release Summary: (Richmond Hill, Georgia, September 5, 2007) Carlos Page, a Senior Security Officer, will be honored as this year's outstanding older worker from Georgia as part of the Experience Workssm Prime Time Awards Program. Experience Works, the nation's largest provider of training and employment services for older workers, recognizes outstanding older workers from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
The Georgia Older Worker Network selects outstanding older workers and outstanding employers of older workers from each district in Georgia annually. The state honoree was announced at the 19th Annual Older Worker Network Luncheon on August 31st at St. Simons Island.
Press Release Body: The Prime Time Awards Program is the only national program that, each year, honors the contribution of working seniors. Now in its ninth year, the Prime Time Awards Program seeks to remove barriers to employment and lessen negative stereotypes about older workers. Mr. Page will be honored at the Prime Time Awards week in Washington, DC on October 3-5, 2007. The visit will include meetings with congressional representatives, U.S. Senate and U.S. House events, and the awards banquet and ceremony. In addition, America's Oldest Worker will be announced at a press conference on October 4.
Carlos Page stood for his country with a tour of duty in the US Army. He was an employee of the US Postal Service retiring after 29 years. However, his time in the workforce did not stop there. From the post office, Page crossed the street to be a part time ticket seller at the Augusta- Richmond County Civic Center Complex. Twelve years ago, he became a full time employee as their senior security officer. Heading up security for all events at James Brown Arena and Bell Auditorium, Page also trains and assigns other security officers and uses his mechanical talents to repair and maintain the Zamboni ice machine for Augusta Lynx hockey games. Many games would have been canceled if his skills had not been available. At age 74, Page not only puts in 40+ hours working, but also offers fellow employees valuable information from expertise gained after 55 years in the workforce. He enjoys spending his off time with his wife and his six daughters and their families.
"As our population continues to age, it is becoming more important than ever that businesses look to older workers to fill critical jobs," said Billy Wooten, regional director of Experience Works. "Our Prime Time Awards Program showcases the talents of our nation's seniors and helps us demonstrate that ability is truly ageless."
